Snooker is a billiard sport which originated at the latter half of the 19th century. Since 1916, the English Amateur Championship has been played which is rated as one of the highest and the most prestigious amateur event in England. The first Professional Snooker Championship took place in 1927. The 1935 World Snooker Championship included significant changes in the gameplay.
The Professional Billiards Players’ Association after several disputes with the Billiards Association and Control Council, developed their own championship named World Professional Match-play Championship in 1952. The two major snooker tournaments for the professional snooker players are the Australian Open and the Shanghai Masters.
