Early Life

Rolando Romero is a former Cuban professional boxer who was born on October 14, 1995, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He hails from a Cuban boxing family. Rolando Romero’s father is Rolando Romero Sr., a former boxer in Cuba. He also won the Cuban National Championship three times. Growing up around boxing helped Romero form a strong affinity for the sport and to pursue boxing professionally. Romero soon began building his skills as an amateur boxer before turning professional in 2016.

Professional Carrer

Romero’s professional career started in 2016 with a win against David Courtney via TKO. Soon, he became undefeated, having won most of his early bouts via stoppage. In 2020, Romero beat Jackson Maríñez to win the WBA interim lightweight title. He later knocked out Avery Sparrow and Anthony Yigit before taking on Gervonta Davis in 2022. Davis gave Romero his first professional loss via a sixth-round knockout. In 2023, Romero stepped up into light welterweight and beat Ismael Barroso for the vacant WBA belt. However, he lost his belt to Isaac Cruz via eighth-round TKO in 2024. Winning against Manuel Jaimes, Romero shifted his weight class to welterweight, where he defeated Ryan Garcia in 2025. Teófimo Lopez was born on July 30, 1997, in Brooklyn, New York, to parents who were immigrants from Honduras. His father, Teófimo López Sr., came to Brooklyn from Honduras with his mother when Teófimo was five years old. Later, the family moved to Florida, where his father started teaching him boxing from age six. Under his father’s guidance, López improved his boxing.

Amateur Career

In his boxing career, López established himself as an up-and-coming amateur boxer by securing the National Golden Gloves title in 2015. Moreover, he qualified for the 2016 Olympics through the US Olympic Trials. López qualified to represent Honduras by winning the lightweight category at the 2016 American Olympic Qualifiers. López competed in the American tournament, where he reached the finals and qualified for the Rio Olympics. López represented Honduras at the 2016 Olympics and lost to silver medallist Sofiane Oumiha

Professional Career

In 2016, López signed with Top Rank and had his first professional match that same year. His impressive record quickly became undefeated until he gained recognition by knocking out Mason Menard. In 2019, López knocked out Richard Commey in the second round and became the IBF lightweight champion. Later, he also defeated Vasiliy Lomachenko by unanimous decision and became the unified lightweight champion. After he lost to Kambosos Jr., he switched to the light welterweight class and defeated Josh Taylor via knockout. He defended the WBO title and started shifting towards the welterweight category.
