Early Life

Cherneka Lee Johnson was born on 3 March 1995 in Tauranga, New Zealand, and is of Māori (Ngāti Ranginui) descent. She is the eldest of three siblings. At the age of 11, she moved with her family to Australia’s Gold Coast in 2007. Johnson discovered boxing in 2008 at a local PCYC before joining the Albert Boxing Club. She trained under Allan Nicolson Jr alongside future world champions Skye Nicolson and Che Kenneally.

She enjoyed an outstanding amateur career after beginning in 2011, competing in more than 60 bouts. Professional Career
