The WBC Welterweight Champion, Mario Barrios, has to defend his title against Ryan Garcia on 21 February 2026. Currently, this “Mario Barrios vs Ryan Garcia“ fight is the most anticipated fight in the Welterweight category.
Mario comes after a draw against a 46-year-old boxer, Manny Pacquiao. Although he saved his title, it is considered a major blow to Mario’s boxing career. He couldn’t beat an old boxer who had been out of the ring for four years.
Ryan Garcia, on the other hand, has the fans’ attention, given his better work rate inside the ring. He lost his previous fight, but somehow, he still keeps his stature intact. It is more like a star boxer trying to sustain his boxing showmanship against a controversial fighter.

His way to glory was full of challenges. After a tragic childhood, the Mexican boxer found solace in boxing.
Mario’s mother introduced him and his sister to the world of boxing, where Mario found his destiny. From the age of seven, Mario began training and grew up watching his favorite stars inside the ring. He took inspiration from Salvador Sanchez, Thomas Hearns, and Oscar De La Hoya.
He began taking boxing seriously in his freshman year and became a prolific boxer in senior high school. Mario had a threatening amateur career record before turning professional.

His fights have always been high-stakes, most often for a title. His first major belt came in 2019, when he beat Batyr Akhmedov for a vacant WBA Super Lightweight Title.
After that, he successfully defended his title once but soon lost it to Gervonta Davis in 2021. He also lost to Keith Thurman in 2022. This was a major setback that led to his transformation.
Mario decided to move up a weight class and became a Welterweight contender. Soon, he captured the WBC Continental Americas Welterweight title.
The turning point in his life came in 2023, in a fight against Yordenis Ugás. Mario Barrios got the vacant WBC Interim Welterweight title. Now he stands as the WBC Welterweight Champion.

He decided to move up in the weight category and captured the WBA Gold Super Lightweight title.
These successive titles made him a prominent name among the list of American boxers. He decided to capitalize on the fame and utilized it to fuel his successive bouts. Now he contends for the WBC Welterweight title against Mario Barrios.
