The MotoGP Grand Prix of Catalunya is ready for thrilling action this weekend. The entire MotoGP fandom is getting warmed up to enjoy the Tissot sprint on Sunday Afternoon. Given the legendary stature of the race, the Catalan GP will have thousands of spectators for the Main Event. The Catalan city of Barcelona will host the upcoming race at the iconic Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Extending from 14 May 2026 to 17 May 2026, the events are scheduled for three days. It also includes the practice sessions and the main race. Let’s look at the complete race preview for the upcoming race and highlights for the previous race.
The MotoGP Grand Prix of France has seen Jorge Martin winning the race on Sunday. Jorge Martin’s perseverance in the circuit was way stronger than that of other riders. He started in the 8th position and found his way to the top throughout the laps. Martin rode past Bagnaia, Acosta, and Bezzecchi to reach position 1.
Bezzecchi’s Dominance
Marco Bezzecchi’s second finish remains the highlight. His consistency continues to amaze both fans and critics. Finally, Ai Ogura finished third in the race. Ogura is another consistent rider who reached 5th place in three races and a podium so far. The Japanese rider’s occasional brilliance keeps Trackhouse Racing in a reasonable spot. Bezzecchi continues to do wonders in every race. By the end of the season, he might be in the top three spots. He would even be the champion if he kept the same approach to every circuit he faces. But still, we have yet to see more Grand Prix races in the days ahead.

MotoGP Catalan GP – Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya Info
The Catalan circuit opened in 1991 and hosted the Spanish GP in the year of its inauguration. This circuit elongates up to 4.66 km, having 8 right corners and 6 left corners. This predominantly right-corner circuit also has elevation changes.
This circuit has a technically demanding layout that tests the riders’ tire management. Particularly at turn 10, the circuit has a hard-braking zone that forces riders to keep momentum while maintaining mobility and balance. This could be the toughest spot where overtakes are prevalent.
Valentino Rossi holds the record for the highest number of wins in this circuit. He also holds the record for winning the most poles. Alex Marquez has the record for the all-time lap record and best pole from the 2025 season.

MotoGP Grand Prix of Catalunya Preview
The Catalan GP is getting electrified, featuring one of the most dramatic circuits in the calendar, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. After the splendid week from Le Mans, riders are back for another thrilling showdown at Catalunya. Bezzecchi is in for a tight contest given the Marquez brothers’ familiarity with the circuit. Alex Marquez has an elite record with this circuit, and he also won the previous GP at Catalunya. Mainly, the Catalan circuit’s technical demands are suited to Alex Marquez’s riding style. But Marco Bezzecchi’s current momentum might allow him to at least get on the podium. Let’s see the top prospects below.
Marco Bezzecchi
Currently, Marco Bezzecchi remains a standout rider in the 2026 MotoGP season. He has shown a solid braking ability that gives him stability while not taking a toll on momentum. He utilizes his Aprilia RS-GP26 to its limits, focusing on hard-braking. Bezzecchi gets his lead mainly from his hard braking in the corners. When it comes to tire management, he has some challenges. At times, he struggled with low grip areas to avoid excessive tire drop. But seeing his consistency across the races so far, Marco Bezzecchi is favored to win in this MotoGP Catalan race.
Alex Marquez
Alex Marquez had a solid season in the previous campaign. His current run is decent enough with occasional errors. However, at Barcelona-Catalunya, Alex tends to be more in touch with the asphalt. His familiarity with the layout and his riding style are his major strengths. But he still has some issues with the front end. He also has slight issues with braking stability. In addition, he has seen a dip in his bike’s performance. Despite the flaws, Alex is strongly favored to win a podium.
Jorge Martin
As of May 2026, Jorge Martin comes as a strong favorite for the MotoGP Catalan GP. He is in the same league as Marco Bezzecchi, who is stable this season. Martin’s shift from Ducati to Aprilia has made him more efficient. His new braking style completely differs from his former Ducati style. Mainly, his new braking style allows him to maximize braking power, where he no longer feels the issue. It significantly boosted his competitiveness compared to the previous season. At Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Jorge Martin is expected to reach third position this time.
Takeaways
Spain has a strong cultural significance with the Motorcycle Grand Prix races. Ahead of the MotoGP Catalan GP 2026, fans are excited to see the racers on the Spanish asphalt. That being said, the key questions around the top three spots remain uncertain. This is even closer between Alex Marquez and Marco Bezzecchi. Considering all the factors, the leading spots will make way for a magnificent race. Let’s see who gets the P1 and podiums, respectively.
