The NCAA College Baseball Division 1 is heading towards the Men’s College World Series. As the regular season ended, the conference and intra-conference matches have yielded the top prospects for the Regionals. In addition, the 64 teams are matched up region-wise to filter out teams for Super Regionals. This time, UCLA, Georgia Tech, Georgia, and Auburn are the top teams looking for their way to the Omaha finals. Regardless, the upcoming bracket will rapidly progress to an intense 1-vs-1 battle in the Men’s College World Series Finals. There are around 64 teams in the bracket, capable of delivering unparalleled baseball entertainment. The games will get more tense as the rounds progress. Let’s look at the format and bracket in detail.
Format – How it Works?
Regular Season
The NCAA College Baseball is the second most sought-after baseball tournament in the US, lauded by fans for its storylines. Every season, the regular season features top conferences across the United States and conducts series among teams. The NCAA Committee selects the best 64 teams based on the committee’s decision and automatic bids. Every Division 1 conference gets an automatic bid, and the conference selects the conference winners. Some conferences select the postseason tournament winners. 29 teams are selected this way, whereas the other 35 teams are selected based on the committee’s decision.
Regionals
The top 16 teams out of the 64 get to play at home. The next 16 teams play the first 16 teams as rivals. Unlike the first 32 teams, the remaining 32 teams are geographically assigned to the nearest host to reduce travel costs. As 32 total clashes are drawn, each team gets a chance to move on to the Super Regionals. There are 16 regions, each with two matches featuring four teams. These are the regions as follows:
- Los Angeles
- Morgantown
- Hattiesburg
- Gainesville
- Chapel Hill
- College Station
- Lincoln
- Auburn
- Atlanta
- Lawrence
- Tallahassee
- Tuscaloosa
- Austin
- Eugene
- Starkville
- Athens
Super Regionals
The Super Regionals consist of 32 teams with eight total matchups. The Super Regionals will feature a team from each region, after a double-elimination round. The winner of game 1 will face the winner of game 2 to move on to the Super Regionals.
Men’s College World Series
The NCAA Men’s College World Series takes place after eliminating 56 teams from the initial bracket. The final 8 teams will play in a double-elimination tournament, with two brackets of four teams each. The winner of game 1 will face the winner of game 2 to move to the finals in each bracket. In the final, there will be two teams facing each other for the NCAA Men’s College World Series championship.
