What to Expect in the Upcoming Bilateral Fixtures
The upcoming bilateral ODI match is highly personal for Bangladesh, which is trying to restore its prominence in cricket. But Sri Lanka boasts of its continuous victory against Bangladesh. Especially, Nissanka’s consistency throughout the series was the week’s highlight. Consequently, Bangladesh is trying hard to retrieve what it lost to Sri Lanka. So, this time, the ODI series will offer more moments of tension and unfiltered entertainment. Besides that, the second upcoming match of the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy is planned for June 2, 2025. Notably, this acclaimed series is known for the bilateral contests between India and England. England successfully chased the target in the previous Test, whereas India’s bowling declined as they frequently dropped catches. As a result, the upcoming match placed a burden on India to neutralize by winning. Therefore, we can expect India to perform more furiously this time. Recently, Sri Lanka had a test match with Bangladesh from June 25 to June 28, 2025. This was the second fixture of the ICC ODI series, held at the historic Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground. It was a home match for the Sri Lankans. After Bangladesh chose to bat first, the Sri Lankan bowlers showed restrictive bowling. Vishwa Fernando and Sonal Dinusha’s top-tier bowling suffocated Bangladesh. Only Shadman Islam showed notable resistance. Coupled with the rain’s disturbance, Bangladesh’s rhythm was disrupted. But the Sri Lankan bowlers kept striking at a constant force, ending them for 247 runs in the first innings. Sri Lanka’s dominance shone as Nissanka hit 158 and Chandimal 93, setting a 458 target. Prabath Jayasurya went on a wicket spree and restricted Bangladesh to 133 runs in the second innings.
England vs India
The iconic ICC Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy (formerly the Pataudi Trophy) features a five-match series between India and England. In the opener, India suffered a narrow defeat to England. As India chose to bowl first, Yashwi Jaiswal scored a century, followed by Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill’s subsequent centuries. Even so, India lost to England’s determined chase in the second innings. India’s players had uneven contributions, whereas England had more evenly spread-out scoring. Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, and Harry Brook collectively scored more runs. Interestingly, there were only four players who scored centuries in both innings for India. In contrast, for England, the players scored individually in parts. Unfortunately, in the second innings, Siraj, Bumrah, and Prasidh Krishna lost without a single run. England’s cohesive team effort made light work of chasing down India’s formidable target of 835. We can clearly see how India struggled in terms of offense.

Teams and Their Current Form
Sri Lanka
Captain Charith Asalanka leads the current Sri Lankan National Cricket Team. Notably, the team comprises star players like Pathum Nissanka, Dinesh Chandimal, and Wanindu Hasaranga. In their last performance, Nissanka and Chandimal scored effortless runs. Nissanka is a powerhouse batter who scores continuously in extended innings. Likewise, Hasaranga is an exceptional all-rounder known for his game-changing moments. Overall, the bowlers maintained commendable economy rates across the matches. However, their wicket-taking is inconsistent. When it comes to defensive strengths, spin bowling remains one of their core strengths. In terms of batting, Nissanka obviously provides aggressive run accumulation. In particular, their all-rounders are an absolute menace to their opponents. On the downside, their offense tends to decline against fast and bouncy pitches, which must be addressed.
Bangladesh
Bangladesh is a flexible cricket team that adapts itself according to the pitch and opponents. To begin with, Mehidy Hasan Miraz leads the team for ODIs, which includes several other key players. In particular, all-rounders like Liton Das and Mehidy Hasan Miraz provide the team with comprehensive strength. Furthermore, their offensive strength relies on an experienced middle order. Notably, their strategic middle order perfectly balances high-pressure situations and finishes the innings with higher strike rates. Additionally, Bangladesh has effective death bowlers who hit straight yorkers. Their field placement is also top-tier, providing wider coverage. However, the team heavily relies on a few selective batsmen. If batters like Mushfiqur Rahman and Mahmudullah fail to score, the entire batting lineup will collapse. Moreover, they struggle to face spins. Consequently, it drastically reduced their ability to control the middle-overs. Therefore, for the upcoming ICC, Bangladesh needs to refine its offensive technical strengths.
England
England is a well-respected team in the cricket world that has excellent batting strength. Notably, Ben Stokes, Ben Duckett, and Harry Brook bring solid batting strength to the game. In their previous ICC Test match, every player made meaningful contributions across both innings, showcasing a well-rounded team performance. Their collective teamwork spreads the contribution equally, allowing every player to perform well with less pressure. Their fast bowlers like Jamie Overton and Chris Woakes continuously keep the opponent from scoring. Subsequently, it results in lower run rates in the middle overs. Batsmen like Harry Brook and Ben Duckett maintain strike rates above 100. Lower includes Jamie Overton, who finishes the death overs effectively. However, their batting lineup has continuously struggled against spin on slower surfaces. Their aggressive batting strategy can go wrong if they lose crucial wickets in the early innings. Hence, they need to develop a rounded, fail-proof approach.
India
The Indian National Cricket Team is currently in a balanced yet less impactful condition. Under Shubman Gill’s captaincy, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Ravindra Jadeja are vital players who score consistently. India’s top order is packed with efficient run scorers capable of stabilizing and accelerating the innings. The presence of players like Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul adds more experience to the players. However, the leading players like Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah are not in the upcoming matches. This is a considerable weakness in the team’s overall strength. One of the unique characteristics of the Indian team is its spin-batting strength. Indian batters are generally strong against spin. But bowlers like Siraj and Shami are currently underperforming. The absence of Bumrah makes the bowling order struggle to keep consistency in death bowling under pressure. As of now, India should keep the bowling order fierce to sharpen the defense.
Pitch Conditions
R Premadasa Stadium Pitch Report
The upcoming bilateral ODI series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka starts at the R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. The stadium has hosted several major ICC tournaments, including ODIs. It generally offers more speed and bounce for the bowlers. The pitch is usually dry and hardened, which supports fast-paced balls. Also, the weather is expected to be sunny around the time of the event. So, the dry pitch might favor spins and fast-paced bowling. While the pitch provides opportunities for the Batsmen in the initial innings, scoring becomes difficult, along with tight bowling. The average ODI score is about 250-270, but scores above 300 have been achieved occasionally.
Edgbaston Stadium Pitch Report
Edgbaston Stadium will host the second Test match of the five-match series. India and England face each other in the upcoming match. Ahead of the match, the Edgbaston Stadium’s pitch should be considered. The stadium is known as bowling-friendly. Its rigid and dry surface intensifies the fast bowling in the later stages as the pitch develops cracks. So, choosing to bat first will be an advantage. As the pitch dries and hardens, bowlers are likely to gain the upper hand, using the conditions to their advantage. Historically, teams that have batted first have had an advantage in the early innings. Unfortunately, there is a chance of weather disruptions, particularly rain and humidity. Considering this, the pitch could become wet and less bouncy if it rains.
Predictions
Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh
Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are set to face off as rivals in the upcoming ODI series on July 02, 2025. The expected clash will take place at R.Premadasa Stadium. Ahead of this match, momentum undeniably leans towards Sri Lanka. They are just in form, as they recently beat Bangladesh in the Test series. However, the upcoming match is an ODI. Hence, the dynamics will differ from what they used to be in the Test matches. Particularly, this match is held at home for Sri Lanka, where they beat both Bangladesh and Australia. Sri Lanka’s Nissanka remains the most powerful batter for Sri Lanka. Notably, Asalanka and Hasaranga’s early partnership will accumulate enough runs to sustain up to the second innings. Sri Lanka enters this ODI well-adjusted to the pitch and confident in execution. The R. Premadasa pitch is expected to aid Sri Lanka’s advantage, offering conditions suited to their seam bowling strengths. Theekshana’s skiddy spin is expected to be particularly effective during the middle overs, providing a crucial edge.
In contrast, Bangladesh must overcome the psychological blow they had from recent defeats. Their batting order often collapses due to the overdependence on Mushfiqur Rahman and Mahmudullah. Therefore, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Liton Das might step up as all-rounders to offset Sri Lanka’s upper hand. Bangladesh has a good death-over strength with their fast bowlers. Combined with the pitch conditions, it is clear that they might utilize their fast-paced bowlers. But chasing or defending will be difficult if they fail to take early wickets. Sri Lanka’s average ODI score in R.Premadasa is 287, whereas Bangladesh’s away average score is 329. Unless Bangladesh produces a top-order masterclass with near-perfect bowling, they cannot dominate Sri Lanka. Hence, Sri Lanka has a clear chance of winning the first match of the bilateral ODI series.
England vs India
England and India approach the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy on July 02, 2025. The clash happens at Edgbaston Stadium, Birmingham, England. England enters this match with confidence and tactical superiority. England’s hallmark remains its collaborative consistency. Their bowlers, especially Jamie Overton and Chris Woakes, are well-suited to Edgbaston’s bounce-friendly pitch. The pitch usually deteriorates on the 3rd day, providing a clear chance for fast-paced bowlers. As they already took the lead in the first match, England comes with more confidence at home. Their decent batting lineup is more efficient in accumulating runs when compared to India’s aggressive and uneven lineup. All-rounders like Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes cover the team’s overall strength. Given their flexibility and batting depth, England can outperform India if they avoid occasional lapses.
India, on the other hand, faces batting inconsistency. Despite multiple centuries, India lacks a coordinated batting order. Players like Jadeja, Siraj, and Bumrah often fail to capitalize on later innings. India’s weaker defense let England chase the target without pressure. In addition, the iconic duo of Siraj and Shami has been out of form recently. The Edgbaston pitch offers good batting conditions early in the match, but it starts to break by Day 3. So, India needs to post a big first-innings total, ideally around 400, to stay competitive. But England has the edge as they stay composed and adapt well to changing conditions. India’s bowlers must tighten their line and maintain pressure throughout the innings. The fielders also need to stay alert and avoid costly dropped catches. If India fails to execute in both departments, England can use home conditions to full advantage.
