Lamont Roach Jr.
Early Career
Lamont Roach Jr. was born on August 18, 1995, in Washington, D.C., and raised in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Roach fell in love with boxing when he was nine years old. He was taken to the No “X” Cuse Boxing Club by his father and cousin Bernard “Boogaloo” Roach. Training with his father and cousin, Roach trained five times a week in middle school. He also played football when he was young, but he gave up football to focus on boxing in high school. As an amateur boxer, he had an excellent record of 125 wins and 15 losses.
He won two Junior National Golden Gloves Championships, one National PAL Championship, and five Ringside World Championships. Roach won the USA Boxing Youth National Championship and National Golden Gloves title in 2013. He was also awarded a bronze medal in the Klitschko Brothers Tournament and the USA Boxing Outstanding Boxer Award.
Professional Career
Roach became a professional boxer in March 2014 after joining Golden Boy Promotions. He won his first fight in April 2014 through a unanimous decision over Victor Galindo. At the onset of his career as a professional boxer, he was enrolled in mechanical engineering at the University of Maryland. Roach had a perfect record until his twentieth professional fight and won various regional titles. In 2019, he faced off against Jamel Herring for the WBO super featherweight title but was defeated by unanimous decision.
After regaining his momentum through wins over René Alvarado and Angel Rodriguez in 2021. He won a chance to fight for the world title. Roach captured the WBA super-featherweight title via a split-decision defeat of Héctor García in November 2023. Roach successfully defended his belt when he beat Feargal McCrory in 2024. Roach finally switched divisions from super-featherweight to lightweight in order to battle Gervonta Davis for the WBA lightweight title. The fight ended up in an inconclusive draw.
William Zepeda
Early career
William Zepeda Segura was born on June 4, 1996, in San Mateo Atenco, State of Mexico, Mexico. William became interested in boxing at a young age and came from a hardworking family. His parents were supportive of all his sporting activities. He found time to train despite his responsibilities at home. He got better at the amateur level through participating in different matches in his region. He was known for being an aggressive player and for his good physical condition.
He managed to stand out amongst many other young Mexicans in the sport. His amateur career did not garner a lot of attention internationally as compared to other boxers. But his career had laid a good base for his future success. The boxer had set his mind on representing his country internationally. Therefore, he worked on his punching skills, stamina, and pressure fighting. William dedicated himself to becoming an excellent fighter in boxing, and he entered the professional world in 2015.
Professional Career
William Zepeda made his professional debut on November 14, 2015, when he knocked out Alonso Salvatierra in the third round. He was quick to earn an undefeated record using his relentless pressure style and volume of punches. Zepeda earned the vacant WBF Mexican lightweight title in 2017 by knocking out Juan Pablo Borbon. In 2019, he won the WBC FECARBOX Silver lightweight title through his win against Eliot Chavez.
He got more attention through victories over Joseph Diaz Jr., Jaime Arboleda, Mercito Gesta, Maxi Hughes, and Giovanni Cabrera. This made him a notable challenger in the lightweight division. In 2024, he achieved two split decision wins against Tevin Farmer, who was a former world champion. His undefeated streak was brought to an end with a unanimous decision loss to Shakur Stevenson in a world title bout. William continued to be regarded as one of the most dangerous lightweight contenders. He is famous for his relentless pressure and excellent work rate.

Most who saw Roach’s battle with Gervonta Davis feel as though the veteran was robbed. I was at the Barclays Center that night in Brooklyn, and I felt Roach won. Everyone around me did too. As it is, Roach parlayed that into another high-profile scrap with Isaac Cruz in December 2025.
Unfortunately for Roach, like the fight with Davis, his scrap with Cruz also ended in a majority draw. Against Zepeda, Roach needs a definitive victory. He has to prove he can beat an upper-echelon fighter. While Zepeda is a step down from Davis and Cruz, he is still credible, exciting, and he will come to bring war.
The styles make the case. Roach operates from the pocket with a great chin and fights back with precision. Zepeda attacks and delivers volume. The very thing that Roach’s defense needs in order to be impressive. The very same thing that has given him trouble when the scorecards were close.
Zepeda arrives off a loss to Shakur Stevenson last summer, the same Stevenson who has already signed with Zuffa Boxing. Both fighters are here because someone else already beat them or drew with them.

These bouts showed that he is capable of withstanding pressure while throwing cleaner punches. Zepeda’s constant work rate will make every round contested. But his offensive approach will possibly leave holes for Roach’s combination work. While Zepeda can have success in the middle rounds, Roach’s recent experience in world title bouts will probably be useful.
