Early life

Claressa Maria Shields was born on 17th March 1995 in Flint, Michigan, United States of America. She came from a challenging family background but gained determination. Her father, Bo Shields, had previously participated in underground boxing and introduced her to the sport. Claressa was inspired to take up boxing following her knowledge about Muhammad Ali and his daughter, Laila Ali. Initially, her father thought boxing was not for girls. However, she persisted in asking for a chance. At 11 years old, she began boxing at Berston Field House in Flint.

Her grandmother was very supportive of her decision to go ahead in boxing. Jason Crutchfield became her coach and groomed her skillfully. Claressa proved to have extraordinary skills and a very competitive nature. Her achievements in the sport enabled her to move on to the top ranks in national competitions. Amateur Career

Shields developed a great amateur career prior to becoming a professional boxer. She managed to be crowned National Junior Olympic champion twice when she was young. Kaye Scott was born on June 2, 1984, in Sydney, Australia. She was introduced to boxing when women’s boxing became legal once more in New South Wales. In 2009, Kaye Scott participated in the first-ever legal women’s boxing match held in the state. Later, she participated for Australia in various international competitions. Scott participated in the 2014 Commonwealth Games, where she reached the quarterfinals. There she lost to Wales’ Lauren Price.

The greatest success Scott had in her amateur career was her participation in the 2016 Women’s World Championships. There, she won the silver medal in the light-heavyweight division. She was defeated by Yang Xiaoli from China in the final. This made Scott the most successful boxer in the World Championships for Australia at the time. Also, Scott participated in the 2018 Commonwealth Games, where she won a bronze medal. She represented Australia six times in the World Championships. In that competition, she competed in three different weight divisions.

Professional Career

Scott had her professional boxing debut on November 25, 2023, when she won against Connie Chan via an eight-round unanimous decision.
