The 2026 F1 Spanish GP (officially known as the Formula 1 TAG Heuer Gran Premio de España 2026) is a motor race scheduled for 13 September 2026. The event is scheduled to happen at the Madring in Madrid, Spain. It will be the fourteenth round of the 2026 F1 World Championship.

The F1 Spanish GP starts a new era in 2026 as F1 heads to Madrid. For this race, the Madring circuit is purposely built for the first time. Madrid is not a stranger to F1. 1974 – Niki Lauda claimed the first victory of his F1 career at Jarama. He won by leading Ferrari teammate Clay Regazzoni home by more than 35 seconds. Lauda started from pole position and also set the fastest lap as Ferrari secured a commanding one-two finish.

1981 – Gilles Villeneuve produced one of the great defensive drives in F1 history. He used the speed of his Ferrari on the straight. He placed the car precisely through Jarama’s corners to keep four rivals behind. The first five cars crossed the line just 1.24 seconds behind Gilles. Villeneuve secured the final Grand Prix victory of his career.

The Circuito de Madring (commonly known as the Madring) is F1’s newest purpose-built venue. Woven through the IFEMA Exhibition centre in the northeastern Valdebebas and Barajas districts of Madrid. It makes its World Championship debut for the F1 Spanish GP 2026.

It was designed by the renowned circuit designer from Dromo. The €83.2 million track is hailed as a high-speed challenge often described by simulator testing as “Jeddah on steroids”.

The Hybrid Layout

• Roughly 4.1 km of the track runs dynamically around the inner pavilions and permanent grounds of the IFEMA Madrid complex. The remaining 1.3 km runs on public asphalt and newly constructed stretches in the Valdebebas northern expansion zone.
• Two distinct halves of the circuit are connected by two tunnel sections. These tunnels plunge drivers underneath an elevated motorway.
• Instead of being pancake-flat like typical street venues, the track incorporates the region’s natural geography. Drivers face an 8% climb followed by a sharp blind drop through Turn 8(named Albona).

‘La Monumental’ Banked Corner

• The most striking element of the Madring is Turn 12, officially named “La Monumental”.
• It is a massive, continuous semicircular curve measuring 550 metres long.
• It features a staggering 24% banking angle, making it the steepest banked corner of modern F1.
• Drivers will experience massive physical compression as they scream through the banking for roughly six seconds straight. It is flanked by a massive stadium-style grandstand zone accommodating 45,000 spectators

Overtaking Zones and Speed

• The 5.416 km lap has 22 technical corners, but it is also built for racing action.
• F1 cars are simulated to reach top speeds of 340 km/hr down the longest urban straights.
• The circuit features four primary overtaking zones. The cleanest opportunity comes at the end of the 589-metre main straight. Where drivers slam on the brakes for Turn 1, a right-hander, decelerating rapidly from 320 km/h to 100 km/h. Heavy braking at Turn 5, Turn 11, and Turn 20 also presents prime opportunities to attack.

• It sits just 8km from the Madrid-Barajas Airport. Fans can travel from downtown Madrid directly to the front gates using Metro Line 8.
• By utilizing IFEMA’s vast indoor exhibition halls, the circuit boasts one of the largest paddock footprints in F1 history.
