He started to train in boxing at the age of 12, encouraged by his brother. His elder brother was a boxer who lost his career due to unfavorable circumstances. As an amateur, he delivered stunning performances, often finishing the fight via stoppage. He built a massive record of 273-7 before becoming a professional boxer.
He won numerous accolades, including the 2012 Pan American Youth Championships and the 2012 Dominican Republic Youth National Championships. Seeing his speed and agility, he was named “Caballo Bronco.” Furthermore, he fought in the World Series of Boxing, representing the Dominican Republic. After a successful amateur career, Carlos Adames became a professional boxer, debuting against Souffrant.
Adames’s Professional Career
Adames won his very first professional bout against Jeff Souffrant. He won the fight by decision within four rounds. After that, he went on to face many welterweight fighters. One of the notable feats was against Kelly Figueroa. He beat Fiueroa and won the WBC Fedecaribe Welterweight belt. It was his major achievement in his professional career. Following that, he won the WBA Fedelatin welterweight title and retained it three times.
Adames moved on to the Light Middleweight category and won the vacant WBC-NABF Light Middleweight title. But he lost a fight to Patrick Teixeira in a WBO Interim Light Middleweight bout. However, his comeback was strong enough to move him up in the division and win the WBC Interim Middleweight title. After the previous champion was arrested, Adames became the new champion. Although he won without a fight, he proved his worth by retaining it twice.
